“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” Isaiah 66:13 (NLT)
Mother’s Day looks different for every woman. For some, it is filled with celebration, laughter, and gratitude. For others, it can carry a quiet ache. It may bring memories of a mother who is no longer here, a relationship that was strained, or a love that never quite felt complete.
I understand that feeling more than I ever expected to.
While I am extremely grateful for the life I was given, being adopted at six weeks old always left a place in my heart that felt like something was missing. I never met my biological father. He never wanted to meet me. Even though I was loved, I didn’t always feel like it. There was a part of me that kept searching, not always knowing what I was searching for, just knowing there had to be something more.
Maybe you have felt that too. A longing for connection. A desire to be fully known and fully loved. Over time, I began to realize something important. Rejection can either mark us with pain, or we can allow God to rewrite our story with His love.
Everything began to shift for me when I truly came to know Jesus. The emptiness carried for so long did not disappear overnight, but little by little, God began to fill those places in my heart with His presence. He met me right where I was with His love, His peace, and His comfort.
“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.”
God became the comfort I did not know I needed.
Part of that healing also came through forgiveness. Not because everything felt fair or made sense, but because I did not want to carry the weight of hurt any longer. Forgiveness did not change my past, but it changed my heart, and it created space for God to bring peace where there had once been pain.
“Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37 (NLT)
Somewhere along the way, I realized something else that changed everything. I had choices. Just because my story did not look the way I had hoped growing up did not mean my future was locked in a path that leads to misery and pain. I did not have to carry forward what felt broken or missing. I could choose differently. I could choose to love. I could choose to show up. I could choose to become the kind of mother I had longed for.
I took the good, the bad, and the difficult moments in life and gleaned from all of them. Even in the hard places, there were lessons that shaped me, strengthened me, and helped me grow.
In fitness, we do not ignore weak areas. We strengthen them. God does the same thing in our hearts. He does not overlook the places where we feel lacking. He gently works in those areas, building strength, healing, and wholeness over time.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” Proverbs 31:25 (NLT)
That kind of strength does not come from having a perfect story. It comes from knowing the One who holds your story.
“Love is patient and kind. It never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” 1 Corinthians 13:4,7 (NLT)
Whether you are celebrating this Mother’s Day, missing someone deeply, or carrying emotions that are hard to put into words, please know this; YOU are seen, YOU are loved, and YOU are not alone.
God has a way of filling every place that once felt empty. He brings comfort where there has been loss, peace where there has been uncertainty, and strength where there has been weakness.
Your past may shape you, but do not let it define your future.
So today, no matter what your story looks like, rest in this truth. You are cherished with a love that never leaves, and a love that is more than adequate, it is abundant!
