“What is the price of two sparrows, one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.” Matthew 10:29 (NLT)
For almost four weeks now, a little bird has been showing up at my windows. It follows me from room to room whenever I am home. While sitting at my office desk writing and looking out over our farm, the bird perches on the outside window ledge and pecks at the glass as if trying to get my attention.
What is unusual is how close the bird allows me to get. I can quietly walk right up to the window while it is pecking at the glass, and instead of flying away, the bird stays there looking back at me as if to say, “I am here.”
People online have suggested it might be a Baltimore Oriole, a female tanager, or maybe even someone’s pet. I am not sure what kind of bird it is, but I do know this. It has interrupted my mornings in the sweetest way.
It was a good interruption.
A God wink in my direction.
Lately, I have been praying and seeking God’s direction in several areas of my life. What is next, Lord? Which way do You want me to go? How do I get there?
As I watched this little bird pecking at my window, I felt reminded that God sees every detail of our lives. Nothing escapes His attention. Sometimes in the middle of busy schedules, responsibilities, and uncertainty, we simply need a reminder that we are not forgotten.
Years ago, during one of the hardest seasons of my life, I learned what it truly meant to trust God.
After my ex-husband left, everything material was taken from me. I was suddenly a single mother raising four children on my own. I remember feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, and left to figure everything out on my own. Yet in the middle of that painful season, God stepped in and orchestrated the most beautiful journey of faith.
His eye was on me and mine on Him.
I leaned heavily on Proverbs 3:5-6 during that time, and a trusted word today:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”
Those verses became my anchor. I did not always know how bills would be paid or how things would work out, but God faithfully provided for me and my children over and over again. I learned that God’s provision does not always arrive early, but it is always on time.
Philippians 4:19 reminds us:
“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (NKJV)
Out of that difficult season came greater strength, deeper faith, and a willingness to follow wherever God was leading me.
Now years later, I still find myself asking God for direction. The questions may be different, but my dependence on Him remains the same. Perhaps that little bird outside my window was simply a reminder that the same God who carried me then is still leading me now.
Sometimes God speaks through His Word. Sometimes through prayer. And sometimes through the gentle reminders found in His creation.
The old hymn says, “His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.”
Luke 12:7 reminds us:
“And he knows the number of hairs on your head! Never fear, you are far more valuable to him than a whole flock of sparrows.”
What a comfort to know that if God notices every bird that lands outside our window, how much more does He care for us.
Whatever you may be facing today, remember this: you are seen by God, loved by God, and never forgotten by Him.
